Droimeann Donn Dílis

A dhroimeann donn dílis, a shíoda na mbó
Cá ngabhann tú san oiche ‘s cá mbíonn tú sa ló?
O bimse ar na coillet ‘s mo bhuachaill am ‘chomhair
Agus dfhág sé siúd mise a ‘sileadh n ndeor

O dhroimeann donn dílis the landlord has come
Lid a foul blast of death has he swept o’er our home
He has withered our rooftree beneath the cold sky
Poor, houseless and homeless tonight must we lie

Níl fearann, níl tiós agam, níl fionta ná ceol
Níl flatha am ‘choimhdeacht, níl saoithe ná sló
(N)ach ag síor ól an uisce go minic sa ló
angus beathuisce ‘gus fíonta ‘ghe mo naimhdibh ar bórd

My heart it is cold as the while winter’s snow
My brain is on fire and my blood’s in a glow
O dhroimeann donn dílis ‘tis hard to forgive
When a robber denies us the right we should live

Dá bhfaighinnse cead aighnis nó radharc ar a ‘grcoróinn
Sasanaigh do leadbhfainn mar a leadbhfainn sean bhroig
Tré chnocaibh ‘s tré ailtibh, ‘s tré ghleanntaibh dubha cheo
Agus siúd a bhréagfainnse mo dhroimeann donn ó(g)

I bid you old comrade a long last farewell
For the gaunt hand of famine has clutched us all too well
It has severed the master and you my good cow
With a blight on his life and a brand on his brow
